What you can do with a notification
A TRIS notification helps you anticipate a national constraint, read the other states’ reactions and rely on a precedent.
Three concrete uses, from anticipation to precedent.
In detail
Anticipating a constraint, country by country
A keyword alert on your product category brings you the draft technical rules of every member state. For a public affairs department that covers several markets with a small team, it is a way to see a labelling standard or a composition restriction coming without local monitoring in each country.
Reading the reactions
The messages filed by the Commission and by the other member states are on the profile. They tell you whether the measure is contested, on what grounds, and by whom. A measure that receives a reasoned reaction from the Commission has a very different trajectory from a measure that passes without comment.
Relying on a precedent
When you are discussing a French draft, knowing that a comparable measure has been notified elsewhere, and what became of it, changes the conversation. It is a verifiable argument, with a reference, that the person opposite you can look up themselves.
