Write precise EU alert keywords
Dixit searches for exactly the words you write, in the language of the document: on the European corpus, write your keywords in English.
Six signs to know, and one rule that comes before all of them: write in English.
In detail
| You write | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
; |
One or the other | biogas ; biomethane |
| a space | One and the other | biogas agriculture requires both |
" " |
The phrase, in that order | "natural gas" |
""" """ |
The phrase character for character, accents and capitals included | """PFAS""" brings back only that spelling |
* |
Every possible continuation of the word | electri* picks up electricity, electrician |
- |
Rules a word out | nuclear -defence |
biogas ; "green gas" ; methan* -agriculture
Rules worth knowing
- The words
AND,ORandEXCEPTspelled out are not instructions, they are words required in the document. - Single quotation marks look for a run of words, ignoring accents and capitals. To require the exact spelling, use triple quotation marks.
- The asterisk accepts neither accents nor capitals.
- The plural only works from the singular towards the plural. Type the singular.
- An exclusion applies to its own part of the alert, between two
;. In the example above,-agricultureonly applies tomethan*. To rule a word out everywhere, repeat it in each part. - Each part must contain at least one word you are looking for. A part made only of exclusions returns nothing.
- A French keyword returns no results on European documents, with no error message. It is by far the leading cause of “Dixit returns no results on my topic”.
