My first three steps

  • Scope France

On day one, create an alert on your topic, follow the current bill with the bell and open the profile of a French parliamentarian you know.

What to do on day one, and nothing more.

In detail

  1. Create an alert on the subject you are asked about every week. On the home page, click the Create a keyword alert card. Add your organisation’s name too: you will know when you are being talked about in Parliament, which happens more often than people think.
  2. Follow the bill you are working on right now. Search > Assemblée Nationale / Sénat > Legislations, open the file, click the bell icon. You will be told as soon as the first amendments land, which is the signal that examination is starting.
  3. Open the profile of a parliamentarian you already know. In Search > Assemblée Nationale / Sénat, on the tab listing parliamentarians (labelled MEPs in the English interface), search for their name. It is the quickest way to understand what Dixit has under the bonnet: their amendments, their interventions, their questions, their social media posts, their votes, all in one place.

Why this order

The alert works for you while you do something else: it is the only move that produces value without you coming back to it. Following a bill gives you the calendar, which is what you most often lack. The parliamentarian’s profile, for its part, shows you how deep the database goes and makes you want to dig.
